Honda DBL East Java Series 2019 - North Region has just passed the round of 16 (sweet sixteen) on Thursday night, September 19, 2019. Eight winning teams in each category will qualify for the round of eight (big eight) which will be held starting Friday, September 20, 2019.

Of the eight games presented in the last 16 of the men's category, the game between East Surabaya IPH High School and SMAN 15 Surabaya is arguably one of the best. Fierce from the start, the game was even forced to continue until the extra time round (overtime). The number of violations that make key players Libels (nickname SMAN 15 Surabaya) fouled out makes them difficult in overtime. This led to the victory of IPH East 38-35 High School.

Even though they lost, the sportsmanship was still apparent from the Libels players after the game. They approached the full stands of their supporters with pride in all their struggles. A pretty good character considering they are still very young (16-18 years).

Good character shown by the children of Libels apparently did not come just like that. Iqsal Yanuar Dwi Fianda, Libels Head Coach, said that he and the school did indeed carry out special programs to build better character for these students. The special program is a routine act of giving.

"Actually, this charity activity has been going on for a long time in Libels and seems to have become a tradition," open the coach who is familiarly called Enda. "However, before we were not routine. Previously we did activities like this before or after the tournament. Only this year, we routinely share in various forms every Friday."

Enda revealed that the beginning of this activity became a routine when they were conducting a training camp in Pacet, Mojokerto, East Java. In the vicinity of the training camp, many residents needed the help of young workers. As a result, Libels players also provide assistance ranging from farming, cleaning houses of worship, to cleaning the environment.

After returning to Surabaya, the coach team, players, and the school finally agreed to do similar activities on a regular weekly basis. However, because of the different environment, their activity in Surabaya is to give rice to the people in need around the school area.

"We are deliberately sharing this activity on our social media. The goal is clearly not for riya' (showing off), our main goal is to invite other colleagues to participate. The result, several alumni and colleagues also provided assistance. Here, the school is also very supportive and even finally provides a window in front of the school to place packaged rice so that it can be taken directly by people in need who are passing by" he added.

Endah claims they are now also trying to routinely provide assistance to the orphanage. The intention, they will try routinely a week to help the orphanage and another week to provide rice wrap in the area around the school. According to him, this succeeded in a bit helping to improve their game in basketball because every player has a better character, especially in order to respect each other.

"I think all the coaches agree that it is useless to have players who are good skills but their character and attitudes are not good. This good character will also be useful in their future lives, whether they are still in basketball or not. And I think that is one of the most important things about basketball at this age" he concluded.
